High Representative Christian Schmidt today visited Donja Gradina, part of the Jasenovac concentration camp complex from the Second World War period. Schmidt paid tribute to Serbs, Roma, Jews, political dissidents and all other victims of Ustasha and Nazi crimes, OHR announced.
“Recognizing the nature of all war crimes and recognizing all victims, without any reservations, is the way to recognize the crimes of the past, promote reconciliation today and build a common peaceful future,” said the high representative on that occasion.
The strength for lasting peace lies in a memory that respects everyone and a real desire for active community in the future, the OHR stated.
