Schmidt: The State Property Ownership was not already settled in Dayton Peace Agreement

The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt points out that claims that the issue of ownership of state property has already been resolved by the Dayton Peace Agreement are not correct.

“The claims that the issue of the state property ownership was already settled in Dayton are not true. This is a fundamental question that still needs to be resolved in this country.

Therefore, the conclusion is a simple one: BiH Politicians – do your work!

When it comes to the process of how to reach a solution, we need technical and legal discussions leading to an acceptable and sustainable resolution of the issue of apportionment of property between the State, the entities, the Brčko District, cantons and municipalities.”

The High Representative recalls that the entities have no right to secede from BiH and only exist legally by virtue of the Dayton Constitution: “BiH’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are unquestionable, and I firmly reject any irresponsible actions in this regard.”

High Representative reminds that borders within BiH do not and cannot exist and that no obstacles to freedom of movement within BiH are acceptable.

“The task of politicians in BiH is to finally implement Dayton in full and not to talk fictional nonsense about it. Respect of the constitutional order the country is the cornerstone of a long-lasting peace, stability, and progress of BiH. The BiH Constitution is an integral part of the GFAP and decisions of the BiH Constitutional Court are final, binding, and must be implemented,” said the High Representative Christian Schmidt.
