Schmidt: What happened from 1992 to 1995 will not be repeated in BiH

The High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Christian Schmidt, said that what happened during the 1992-1995 war will not be repeated in BiH.

He said this before yesterday’s meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto in Sarajevo and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the siege of Sarajevo.

”This visit, as well as other high-level visits, is an indication that the international community is aware of the importance of BiH for regional stability. That is why today, on the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the siege of Sarajevo, we have a clear message. Right now, when international law is being violated on the border of the European Union (EU) and when Russia is waging a ruthless war of aggression, we must show that we believe in the rules and inviolability of international law,”Schmidt said yesterday.

He emphasized that he was not afraid of the possibility of a new war in BiH, but that he would work to ensure that what happened from 1992 to 1995 never happened again, Klix.ba writes.

”The success of Dayton is that the years after Dayton brought peace. The road before Dayton was too long and many innocent lives were lost. For my part, I can say that this will not happen again. I am not saying this because I am afraid that peace is in danger. But I say this as a message to all those ‘crazy’ people who think they can play with people’s inviolability,” he stated.

He is grateful to the soldiers who are part of EUFOR.

”I thank the international community, the EU, and NATO for participating in this. I am just coming from Butmir where I spoke with the EUFOR commander. I would like to thank all these soldiers, including 200 Hungarian soldiers, who are contributing to BiH’s continued peace,” he pointed out.

The High Representative said that no one should generate any insecurity, and he called for the unblocking of state power.

”We will continue the journey from Dayton to Brussels together. The current crisis caused by mutual blockades can no longer remain. That is why we will continue to follow what is happening and we will continue with the discussions,” he added.

According to him, he relies on the parliament and trusts that the international community is ready to support constructive forces.
