sarajevski atentatIn the Sarajevo Kinoteka (Alipašina ulica 19) tonight at 17:00, the film ‘Assassination in Sarajevo’ (1975) by Veljko Bulajić will be screened.

This was Bulajić’s first film made after the overwhelming success of the war epic ‘Battle on the Neretva’, the most famous work of a specific Yugoslav genre of Partisan movies, and brings the reconstruction of events on the eve of the assassination on 28 June 1914, which was the pretext for the outbreak of World War One.

With co-screenwriter Vladimir Bor from the Czech Republic and Stevan Bulajić,  the brother of Veljko, a political entity is created in which both sides are presented in a relatively positive light, by following in parallel the Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia from one side, and Gavrilo Princip and Nedeljko Čabrinović on the other side.

The film was awarded the Golden Arena for directing at the festival in Pula and a special recognition at the international film festival in San Sebastián.

The main stars in the move are: Christopher Plummer, Florinda Bolkan, Maximilian Schell, Irfan Mensur and Radoš Bajić.

The screening of the movie is a part of the Sarajevska Zima Festival.
