Searches Conducted in Sarajevo, East Sarajevo, and Zavidovici in Human Trafficking Investigation

Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency are conducting the “NID” operation in the areas of Sarajevo, East Sarajevo and Zavidovići today.

The “NID” operation is aimed at searching residential buildings and movable property owned or used by suspects at three locations, as well as temporarily seizing items that may serve as evidence in the commission of the criminal offenses of “Organized Crime”, “International Human Trafficking” and “Money Laundering” prescribed by the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the criminal offense of “Human Trafficking” prescribed by the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the criminal offense of “Human Trafficking” prescribed by the Criminal Code of the Republika Srpska.

The searches are conducted by order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in cooperation with police officers of the Ministries of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska, the Ministries of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton and the Zenica-Doboj Canton. During the work on the case, in order to collect information and evidence, cooperation was established with the police authorities of the Republic of Serbia, the Service for Combating Organized Crime (SBPOK). Support in the work was provided by the South East European Law Enforcement Center – “SELEC”.

In order to collect information in the previous period, intensive cooperation was also established with the non-governmental organization “Vaša Prava BiH”. The above activities were carried out with the support of the EU project Strengthening the Fight against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking in the Western Balkans (EU4FAST).
