The Wilson’s Promenade will tomorrow be the site of a unique cycling fun. Organized by the association Giro di Sarajevo, the second Giro Drag Race, a unique drag race on bicycles, will be held tomorrow in the evening hours.
The aim of this competition opened for both amateurs and professionals is to be faster than your opponents in a direct duel and pass to the next level, through the cup system, to the finals. The winners will receive awards, and there are also some special surprises.
The party starts at 6 pm and after technical preparations and the draw, first races will begin around 7 pm. It was very interesting las year, with many kinds of bicycles – from BMX to road machines which were in the absolutely same rank.
“The length of track is extended to 100 meters this year, which gives an opportunity for developing even bigger speed and bigger opportunity for a fair fight between the contestants. It is amazing to see bikes with just one speed shoulder to shoulder with bikes that cost several thousand BAM and bikes that win the Tour de France. Precisely this is what Giro Drag Race provides – an opportunity for everyone to be the best and the fastest,” said Loren Keserović, the event coordinator.
The competition is limited to 32 contestants and electronic applications are already closed because all places have been filled in the first 24 hours. In the cup system, the best contestants pass to the next level and in quarterfinals and semifinals there will be three races instead of one. The contestant who wins two races passes forward. Finale brings one race, and the weaker contestants from the semifinals will fight for the third place.
“For the first three places, our sponsors Porsche Sarajevo and Ciklo Centar provided valuable rewards and we are planning some special surprises for all participants, such as a duel with the fastest cyclist in BiH, the national champion in chronometer, Emir Hulusić. In addition to all of this, our DJ will make sure that the atmosphere is on the right level, and we also prepared refreshments for everyone,” Keserović added.
