A former member of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Vehid Sehic, was interviewed. He referred to the meeting with Matthew Palmer and Angelina Eichhorst, changes to the Election Law, the diplomatic offensive in our country, the actions of Milorad Dodik…
They did not come up with a solution
When asked what are the conclusions from the meeting with Palmer and Eichorst, Sehic pointed out that they did not come up with ready solutions and that they are only mediators.
”The conclusion of the meeting is that the decisions of the Court of Human Rights must be implemented and that all technical corrections and amendments must be made, to both the Election Law and accompanying acts, in order to prevent election manipulations, fraud, theft, falsification of citizens’ electoral will. It was an open and honest conversation. It is important to mention that the arrival of Palmer was interspersed with misinformation, that he came with a ready proposal, however, they both said they had no paper, that they analyzed the April package, Butmir agreement, File’s model ((Stefan Fule).
So, they do not have any solutions, they believe that one step should be taken for changes, to eliminate discrimination in the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and thus in the Election Law. We also talked about some new technologies, because unfortunately, our election process is contaminated, it has lost credibility, so we doubt the election results, ” Sehic noted.
There will be no boycott of the election
As he pointed out, holding elections is not in question at all.
”We are lucky that our Election Law defines exactly when the elections are held, and the CEC must make a decision on holding the elections 150 days before, regardless of whether there will be changes or not. In my opinion, holding the elections is not in question at all, ” stated Sehic.
Also, he added that the Election Commission, regardless of all pressures, will have to respect the BiH Election Law and enable the elections to be held on October 2nd, 2022.
He also referred to a possible boycott of the elections.
”We have seen a boycott of the elections of certain political parties in Serbia, so the elections were still held. Nobody has an interest in that here. In my opinion, no one has the right, in any country, and especially in BiH, to prevent citizens from exercising their right to vote, added Sehic.
He reiterated that the international community here is a mediator for an agreement between political parties, emphasizing that it is good that they are talking to the position, the opposition, and civil society actors.
Political hypocrisy
As Sehic added, he believes that politicians will show responsibility towards the citizens.
”The election law must be focused on ensuring that the elections are fair, free and that they reflect the true will of the citizens and voters. We are the ones who, with our vote, give someone the right to manage the interests of the state. They cannot be in power without our permission. Before the elections, we will listen to how they will fight corruption, theft, crime, illegality, and we are witnesses that they are the generators through their members of polling stations, of all violations of the Election Law. It shows their political hypocrisy, ” concluded Sehic.
