The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today in Washington with US Senator Pete Ricketts, during his working visit to the United States.

They discussed relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the US, the current political situation in our country, and reform processes.

Konaković briefed his interlocutor on the implementation of reforms on BiH’s path to the EU and NATO, and pointed to the dangerous rhetoric and anti-constitutional activities of officials of the Bosnian entity of RS, which threaten European and Euro-Atlantic integration as well as peace and stability in the country. He stressed that the approval of the negotiating framework and the setting of the date of the first Intergovernmental Conference are of exceptional importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina and its further path towards full EU membership.

Senator Ricketts, who is very familiar with the situation in BiH, stressed that it is extremely important that the US continues to assist Bosnia and Herzegovina in implementing the reforms needed on its path to the EU and NATO.

He said that the United States is a strong partner and friend of BiH and stressed the continued commitment of the United States to the stability and progress of BiH, with strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country. He reiterated that Bosnia and Herzegovina deserves a democratic, secure and prosperous future, the Public Relations Office of the BiH MFA announced.

Konaković and Turner: The United States will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, spoke today in Washington with the US Congressman and Chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, Mike Turner.

On this occasion, Konaković emphasized that relations with the United States are of strategic importance for BiH. He expressed gratitude to the United States for its continued support for the institutions of BiH in implementing reforms in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as his expectation for the continued proactive role of the United States in processes that are crucial for the functionality and stability of BiH. He introduced his interlocutor to the political situation in our country and the challenges and destructive forces that threaten peace and stability as well as BiH’s progress on its path to the EU and NATO.

Congressman Turner, who is very knowledgeable about the situation in BiH and the region, expressed interest and concern about the latest developments in our country. He emphasized that the United States will continue to provide full support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, and expressed a firm commitment to preserving peace, security and stability both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the Western Balkans region.

The Congressman introduced Konaković to his initiative to hold the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in May this year in Dayton to mark the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement. At the same time, he presented him with an invitation to participate in the event, which will be held on the sidelines of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly session, as an official who has contributed to fostering transatlantic dialogue and cooperation on key issues facing the Western Balkans during the past period.
