Serbian Officials launched a Video Campaign against the UN Resolution on Srebrenica

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister MilosVucevic and government ministers are participating in an online campaign against the proposed United Nations (UN) resolution on commemorating the international day of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica in 1995.

On that day, the memory of the victims of the crime committed in 1995 against more than 7,000 Bosniaks in Srebrenica, which the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia characterized as genocide in its judgments, would be commemorated.

A short video entitled “We are not a genocidal people. Let’s remember… Proud Serbia and Srpska” was shared in the last two days on the profiles of officials on social networks.

The same message was displayed on the highest tower of the luxury complex Belgrade on the Water (Belgrade Waterfront). Officials from Republika Srpska (RS) also participate in the campaign.

The message being sent to foreign officials is slightly different. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Djuric, in an opinion published in the Brussels-based Politico, writes that “only political extremists reject the view that indescribable crimes were committed in Srebrenica”, adding that “only the most foolish people do not want to acknowledge and pay respect to those victims”.

The resolution, proposed by Germany and Rwanda and co-sponsored by more than 30 countries, including all former Yugoslav republics except Serbia and Montenegro, states that the UN General Assembly should declare July 11th“International Day of Reflection and Remembrance of genocide in 1995 in Srebrenica, which will be commemorated every year”, Detektor writes.
