The session of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was scheduled to be held today, was canceled after ministers from Republika Srpska refused to attend due to the arrival of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Sarajevo. The ministers said that they would not attend the meeting of the Working Group for the Development of the Reform Agenda, also scheduled for today, so its cancellation is certain.
Today’s session of the Council of Ministers has been postponed to Monday, December 9.
Deputy Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BiH and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac stated that the decision to not attend the session was made after this morning’s consultations in his Cabinet, which were attended by BiH Minister of Finance Srđan Amidžić, BiH Deputy Minister of Defense Aleksandar Goganović, BiH Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs Marijana Mujić, and BiH Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport Ognjen Janjić.
Kurti’s announced visit provoked numerous negative reactions from officials of Republika Srpska.
RS President Milorad Dodik stated, among other things, that the visit was an open provocation and an insult to Serbs.
The Collegium of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska also considers Kurti’s arrival in Sarajevo to be a provocation. In addition, as they stated, his arrival represents a violation of the United Nations Charter.
“Hiding behind a non-governmental organization that formally invited Kurti does not absolve elected officials and institutions of BiH of responsibility for violating the internal Dayton principles, namely the Constitution of BiH that did not recognize Kosovo,” they stated in a statement, adding that the response of Republika Srpska will be institutionally coordinated.
Let us recall that the Association of Independent Intellectuals “Krug 99” invited Kurti to attend a session that will be held tomorrow in Sarajevo.
In addition to the previously announced items, the agenda of the session today includes the Draft Law on the Protection of Personal Data, proposed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH.
At the proposal of the Ministry of Security of BiH, the Draft Law on Border Control was also included in the agenda.
The extraordinary session should consider the proposal for the Public Investment Program/Development and Investment Program of the Institutions of BiH 2025-2027 and the proposal for the Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy of BiH 2023-2026.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has not recognized Kosovo as a country.
