Seven people sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison for crimes against civilians committed in 1992 in the Lukavac area are due to begin serving their sentences in the middle of this month, the State Court confirmed to Detektor.
As stated in the response, the Court of BiH has handed over to the convicts referral documents setting the date on which they must report to serve their prison sentences. Zijad Srabović and Refik Morankić are required to report to serve their sentences on August 19, Ahmet Bajrić, Abid Arapčić and Pašaga Čajić on August 20, and Samir Džambič and Mirsad Žilić the following day.
The Court states that all the convicts have received the referral document except for Bajrić, for whom the Court did not receive a receipt confirming proper receipt.
They also stated that to date, only Morankić has applied for a postponement of the execution of his prison sentence due to his poor health and certain work obligations in accordance with the Law on the Execution of Criminal Sanctions of BiH.
Srabović and Morankić were sentenced by a final verdict to six years in prison each, Bajrić to seven years, Arapčić to five years, and Čajić, Džambič and Žilić to two years in prison each. They were found guilty of inhumane treatment, unlawful imprisonment, torture and murder of civilians detained in facilities in Lukavac from June to October 1992.
The verdict states that Srabović was the assistant commander for security of the Territorial Defense Headquarters in Lukavac, Morankić the commander of “Fika’s Unit” and the commander of the prison in the “Klaonica” facility, and the other defendants were members of that unit or military police officers, BIRN BiH reports.
