With today’s first flights to Cologne and Memmingen (Germany), Wizz Air’s base at Tuzla International Airport was re-established. Today’s ceremony marked one of the most significant events in the field of air traffic in Bosnia and Herzegovina in recent years.

This is the result of intensive activities of the Tuzla Canton Government, the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Transport, and the management of Tuzla International Airport, and their commitment to the strategic development of air connectivity between that canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole.

Ten years after establishing its first base in Tuzla, Wizz Air has once again stationed two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft at Tuzla Airport, making Tuzla once again one of the key base points of the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe.

This morning’s flight to Cologne and the ceremonial return of the aircraft to the Tuzla runway symbolically marked the beginning of a new development and business chapter for the Airport.

The Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, Irfan Halilagić, expressed his satisfaction with today’s event, emphasizing that it is a confirmation of the correctness of many years of investments and a strategic approach to stabilizing the situation at the Airport.

“Today we are proud to witness the return of Wizz Air to Tuzla. This is not just the return of an airline, but confirmation that the joint efforts and investments of the Tuzla Canton Government and our partners have borne fruit. In the past period, we have implemented key infrastructure projects – from the construction of the airport atrium, a new gate and a modern parking lot, to solving the long-standing problem of deforestation on the runway approach, which created the conditions for the implementation of new lighting infrastructure and increased flight safety. In addition, we have allocated 1.2 million BAM in flight subsidies, which further accelerated and encouraged the return of Wizz Air to Tuzla,” said Halilagić.

The CEO of Wizz Air Hungary, Roland Tischner, particularly emphasized the strategic importance of Tuzla for Wizz Air, and expressed confidence in the long-term development of cooperation.

“Today’s opening of our base in Tuzla marks an exciting new beginning for Wizz Air and passengers across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The return of our modern A321 neo aircraft to Tuzla allows us to expand our network of destinations, provide more affordable travel options, and create new jobs. We are proud to confirm our long-term commitment to this region with this event.”

Tuzla International Airport General Manager Dževad Halilčević said that the return of the base represents an exceptional business achievement, and the result of many years of cooperation and constant modernization of the airport infrastructure.

“This strategic step further strengthens the role of Tuzla Airport as a key airport in BiH and an important driver of economic growth in the Tuzla Canton. The renovated Wizz Air base brings new jobs, strengthens tourism and positions Tuzla as a center for business and investment,” said Halilčević.

With the reopening of the base, Wizz Air will fly from Tuzla to a total of 13 destinations across Europe, including ten new routes starting in December and March.

This brings the total number of destinations served by Tuzla Airport to 15.

The Tuzla Canton Government points out that the opening of the Wizz Air base represents a strong incentive for the development of tourism, opening new business opportunities and strengthening the economy of the region, as well as additional motivation to continue the continuous development of airport infrastructure, Fena writes.
