Seven fans of the Serbian national team were detained today after a conflict in the German city of Gelsenkirchen before the European Championship match against England, the German police announced.
Gelsenkirchen police confirmed to the British news agency PA that Serbian fans were detained.
“There was a fight between the fans of Serbia and England. The fan groups were separated. Seven people were detained. There were also complaints about inflicting physical injuries,” according to the police statement.
An England fan and a policeman were injured in fan clashes in Gelsenkirchen.
According to some reports, Albanians were involved in causing the violence.
The German “Bild” writes that supporters of the Albanian national team attacked Serbian fans in the garden of a restaurant in Gelsenkirchen, Beta writes.
