contractYesterday, The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Sarajevo (EBRD) signed a contract in Gradačac with the public company “Komunalac” for the donation of 2 million euros for the implementation of water supply projects, construction of sewerage networks and wastewater treatment.

Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Sarajevo, Ian Brown, said that donated funds will allow more than 90 percent of households in Gradačac to obtain drinking water.

Brown added that the treated wastewater will be in accordance with the legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the standards of European Union.

Head of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency in B&H, Marie Bergstrom, said that Sweden is committed to the improvement of environmental protection as well as environmental conditions.

“Sweden has adopted a new strategy for cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period until the year 2020 and according to this strategy, one of the most important courses of action is to improve the environmental performance with the main goal to help the country to join EU,” said Bergstrom.

The Mayor, Dervišagić Edis, said that the entire project will cost about 9 million EUR, of which 6 million EUR are loan funds and the rest are donations of SIDA, the EBRD and the Government of the Czech Republic.
