The Ministry of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton announced that on Wednesday, it will sign a contract for the purchase of 15 new low-floor trams, which is another form of reconstruction of public city traffic in the Sarajevo Canton.

As it was announced, the contract on the procurement of 15 new trams will be signed by the representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton and the company that will deliver the new trams to the Sarajevo Canton.

In addition to the two sides, the signing of the agreement will be attended by representatives of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

At the end of April this year, the Ministry of Transport of Canton Sarajevo signed an agreement with the EBRD, which provided support of 20 million euros for the reconstruction of public transport.

This project envisages the procurement and implementation of an adaptive traffic management system, and the procurement of additional trams as part of the ongoing renewal of the vehicle fleet.

It should be reminded that the Government of Sarajevo Canton selected five potential bidders for the purchase of new trams in December last year.
Bids were sent by a consortium of Stadler Polska from Poland and Stadler Rail Valencia from Spain, Durmazlar Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret Sirketi from Turkey, CAF from Spain, Škoda Transportation from the Czech Republic and Alstom from France.

In addition to the procurement of new trams, the Ministry of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton has also started the reconstruction of the tram line. The first works on this project began on August 26, and the reconstruction of 21.4 kilometers of the tram line is planned.

The first section that will be reconstructed will be Ilidža-Nedžarići, considering the fact that that part of the tram line is in the most critical condition. Ninety (90) days after the start of work on this section, work will begin on the section Nedžarići-Remiza. Reconstruction of the railway, according to the contract, on the route Ilidža-Remiza will be completed in 240 days, Klix.ba writes.
