”Since the beginning of the year, members of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have deterred more than 4.800 people from trying to cross the border illegally, and most of them were from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Bangladesh, ” a spokeswoman for the BiH Border Police (BP), Franka Vican, said to agency Srna.

According to her, in the area covered by the Field Office “Northeast – Bijeljina”, in nine months, about 800 migrants were recorded who were caught crossing the border of BiH illegally or in an attempt to cross it illegally.

She pointed out that, in accordance with the Agreement on Assistance and Operational Cooperation in Border Surveillance in the Bijeljina Border Police Office, a number of members of the Republika Srpska (RS) Ministry of the Internal Affairs and the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies were engaged to assist.

As she said, from the very beginning of the migrant crisis in BiH, the greatest pressure of migrants was recorded in the area of operation of the border police Zvornik and Visegrad.

So far, migrants have illegally tried to cross the border on their own or with the help of smugglers and organized criminal groups for smuggling migrants.

Vican explained that migrants are well connected in communicating with other migrants, exchanging experiences, maps, giving directions for routes, and other information to choose the easiest route through transit countries to countries of the European Union (EU).
