Croatia has rejected the proposal of Slovenia on the construction of a joint landfill of nuclear waste in Vrbina near the nuclear power plant Krsko, and it is almost certain that the Croatian side will resolve this problem by constructing a landfill on Trgovska Gora near the border with BiH, as stated by Deutsche Welle.

“Deutsche Welle” also noted that the implementation of this plan will not be easy at all, although Croatia has more than 200 million EUR in the Fund for Expenses of Waste Management and Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plant.

According to the aforementioned media, this project has already been opposed by local population, as well as neighboring BiH, which even announced a lawsuit against Croatia several years ago in case that it starts with the implementation of this project.

Slovenia proposed a solution to this problem several years ago, and the solution included the construction of a joint landfill in Vrbina, in a vicinity of the nuclear power plant.

Medakovic said that Croatia formally rejected the proposal a month ago and that the main reason for the refusal was the fact that the construction was planned near Sava River.
