Small Producers will stop Production in BiH, higher Prices of Goods expected

The weather conditions this winter so far in Posavina are very favorable for sowing preparations. However, all other circumstances, as claimed by Posavina food producers, are the most unfavorable and there is a threat of a major blow to domestic production and the withdrawal of many smaller producers.

Winter days in Posavina are ideal for preparing spring sowing, but all other circumstances are not good, which is why farmers are announcing the possibility that the least arable land and fields so far will be sown in the spring.

”This year, on average, corn will be sown, in general, it will be sown only for personal needs, some twenty percent of what was sown last year,” told Slavko Leovac, a farmer from Domaljevac.

With the weather disasters that left direct damage to crops as well as the reduced amount of cereals produced, one of the most severe blows to domestic production this year is the enormous increase in the prices of seeds and fertilizers. Farmers are also bothered by the fact that they feel the complete negligence of those in charge of these problems.

“Tomorrow, when food gets three times more expensive than it is now, then they will blame the producers as if we have raised the price, and we are simply not able to produce cheap food,” Vidan Grgic warned.

The best proof that the situation in domestic production is catastrophic is the Leovac family from Domaljevac, which is traditionally engaged in agriculture.

”We are engaged in agriculture, the four of us brothers inherited it from our parents, but if this situation continues, I think that for a year it will be questionable whether we will continue to sow, whether we will continue or give up,” stated Slavko Leovac, a farmer from Domaljevac.

”I think that we are in a very bad position and I would not be surprised if the Posavina agriculture is destroyed and this part is completely evicted from this area,” Vidan Grgic added.

The consequences of the financial blow to domestic food producers, due to the negligence of the authorities, will be felt this year by all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the main reason for that is the enormous increase in food prices and their questionable quality.
