Members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police Unit Trebinje today arrested a BiH citizen after he was caught smuggling five people of Afro-Asian origin. The smuggling was prevented during state border surveillance in the border zone in the Bileća area, where the said BiH citizen tried to smuggle foreign citizens in a VW Passat vehicle with BiH national registration plates.

Due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that the criminal offense of smuggling of persons was committed, the duty prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office and the judge for preliminary proceedings of the Court of BiH were notified of the event, according to whose orders the members of the BiH Border Police Unit Trebinje act. The foreign citizens did not possess identification documents, and in the Questionnaires for Migrants they stated that they came from Syria. Further work on this case is underway.

With their quick and efficient response, the members of the BiH Border Police Unit Trebinje once again demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication in protecting the state border and preventing the smuggling of migrants, the BiH Border Police announced.
