The first snow of 2025 has once again caused a collapse across the country. In the cities, neither drivers nor pedestrians are thrilled with the uncleaned roads and sidewalks. However, the real joy is in the mountains. Thousands of young and old skiers are enjoying the snowy slopes. It is already clear that this season will be better than the last.

New snow and everyone is running to the mountains. Not even the fog prevented skiers from spending this day on Jahorina. The youngest are enjoying the winter magic the most.

“There is a lot of snow, the slopes are steeper than in the mountains in Serbia, but not very steep,” said ten-year-old Vuk.

“This is my second time here, I am from Slovenia, from Kranj, I like it, it is really good,” says eleven years old Sofija.

70,000 skiers have visited Jahorina Mountain since the season opened

The attendance figures already indicate that the season will be excellent. Since its opening, Jahorina has been visited by 70,000 skiers, while January 2nd was the most visited with 8,000 people.

OC Jahorina opened the ski resorts: The trail on Poljice is in operation until 4 p.m

There are skiers from Austria, Germany, China, but the most numerous, traditionally, are guests from the region.

“I haven’t been for seven years, now it’s nice, there’s snow, it’s nice”, “I’m coming from Vinkovci, it’s my first time in Jahorina, before we were in Vlašić. I can say that the slopes are quite good, considering the amount of snow that is falling now and a few days ago when there was a lot of ice, now it is much better”, “It is quite good, the first time I was three years ago, now we have come again, the slopes are very good, only that there is sometimes a little ice”, older skiers told N1.

“We had some snow at the beginning of the season, which was very welcome. We have announcements that it will continue tonight and tomorrow, and that the entire season will be very good, unlike last year. All the slopes are operating at full capacity, those that were not operating last year are now operating at full capacity,” said Radoš Obradović, a ski instructor.

The preparation shows that expectations for the season were high. There is a new ski lift, 19 vertical transport installations, four children’s polygons, 54 kilometers of trails.

“We have expanded our capacities when it comes to night skiing, we now have 12 kilometers of night skiing, new lighting has been installed – 44 new steps according to FIS standards,” explained Milena Čeremidžić from the Jahorina Olympic Center.

Crowds on Ravna Planina as well

However, crowds are not only on Jahorina. Guests also flocked to Ravna Planina, which has been known for years as an ideal place for a family vacation.

“This trail is very beautiful to me, it’s just right for children who don’t know how to ski, so they can learn, it goes through the forest for a lot of the trail and it’s really easy, excellent”, “Ravna planina is beautiful, especially for the family.”

He was actually a year and a half old when we visited for the first time, every year for the holidays we are here, we spend New Year’s and we are very satisfied”, “People are very kind, pleasant, prices are acceptable. It’s a very pleasant atmosphere”, “We came with two children, and friends with three children, they are skiing, and we are sledding”, said the visitors we found on Ravna planina.

They also worked on content for children

The ski center notes that the capacities of the slopes have been expanded by 40% and that, among other things, a lot of work has been done on facilities for children. The guests are more or less from the same countries as in Jahorina.

“The majority of guests come from the region – Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, there are also many from BiH, we are on the doorstep of Sarajevo, the city is the closest to us, there are a lot of people from the city, we have also prepared the kitchen and the way of eating according to the city. So everyone found a place here,” said Veljko Golijanin from the Ravna Planina Ski Center.

Joy because of the snow is also in other BH mountains. The new snow blanket additionally whitened Bjelašnica, Igman, Vlašić and confirmed that the season will last.
