Work on the construction of the currently longest tunnel on the route of Corridor 5C on the route Poprikuse – Nemila is proceeding according to plan and the goal is to be opened in the next few months.

The section of Corridor 5C Poprikuse – Nemila is 5.5 kilometers long, and about 83 percent of the section includes buildings, while only 17 percent is actually the highway route and is one of the most complex construction sites of Corridor 5C.

As part of this section, the longest tunnel on the route of Corridor 5C is being built, namely the Golubinja tunnel, which will be 3.6 kilometers long, and according to the head of the project on this section, Jasmina Mihajlovic, all works are proceeding according to plan.

“Currently, works are being carried out on slope stabilization and relocation of local roads as well as on the entrance/exit portals of tunnels, bridges and overpasses. Work is also active on the excavation of the tunnel on three faces, as well as the installation of secondary lining,” said Mihajlovic.

So far, about 95 percent of the left tunnel tube of the Golubinja tunnel has been excavated, and 91.6 percent of the right one, while 90-95 percent of the work on the buildings has been completed, depending on which buildings are being discussed.

Despite the problems that occurred during the excavation of the tunnel, which affected the cost of the works and certain changes to the project, the plan is to finish the work on the tunnels and buildings in this construction season.

Hasan Coskun, head of the construction site in front of the Cengiz Insaat company, said that work on the tunnel is being carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week and that he is confident that the tunnel will be opened in the coming months and construction work will be completed by the end of the year.

In this section, in addition to the buildings and route, the Golubinja interchange and roundabout, toll station, traffic control center and other facilities will be built.

The start of the section is in the immediate vicinity of Poprikuse, south of the town of Zepce, and the end, as the name suggests, in Nemila, where the second section of the highway to Zenica begins, Klix.ba writes.
