The Spanish government has approved a new migration rule that will allow the legalization of around 300,000 people per year over the next three years, said Elma Saiz, Spain’s Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.
“This is the most comprehensive and ambitious reform in the last 13 years, since the (migration) law came into force in 2011. We assume that around 300,000 people per year will be able to obtain legal status over the next three years. This formula is fully in line with the European agreement on migration,” Saiz said.
According to her, the aim of the new rule is to improve the integration of migrants into Spanish society, meet the needs of the Spanish labor market and solve the demographic problem.
Saiz added that the reform will also serve to fight the mafia, fraud and abuse of rights.
Migrants will be able to receive employment assistance, access to professional training and the possibility of strengthening family ties. The new rule will allow them access to the labor market, including the possibility of recognizing qualifications and professional skills acquired in other countries.
