When it comes to club basketball in Sarajevo, it looks like only the Youth basketball club Spars is going somewhere.
We could see that at the yesterday’s press conference held on occasion of the forthcoming Spars Cup 2014 tournament where, besides Spars as a host, other clubs like the Bosnian champion Igokea, Šibenik from Croatia and Timisoara from Romania will play too.
A growing tradition
The president of the club Nihad Selimović pointed out that the tournament will become tradition and that in time stronger teams will arrive to Skenderija. The first matches are scheduled for today, one between Timisoara and Igokea at 17:30 o’clock and the other between Spars and Šibenik at 20:00 o’clock. On Saturday, a match will be played for the 3rd place while the final match is scheduled at 18:30 o’clock.
“The tournament will serve as a checkup of the actual condition of the team gathered for a month now, while the basic preparations were held during that time at Vlašić. The most important thing is that we have mostly kept the same members as in the last season and that we are going to face new challenges with more experience.” – said Selimović.
The first Bosnian team’s trainer Marko Trbić points out that the club wishes to bring well known teams at the tournament so that the young players from Spars could have a chance to play against excellent players.
“We made efforts to organize this tournament on our own and decided to call the teams with more experience than us. The tournament will be a chance for us to see in which direction to go in the future as well as to see our mistakes and to try to eliminate our deficiencies. We will probably have some problems when it comes to striking but we will fix that by the beginning of the season. The most important thing is that our opponents are of high quality and we will try to ensure as much matches with them as possible. When it comes to our players, we miss two of them this year, but we will rely on our experience. Ambitions remain the same and that is to play again in the finals.” – said Trbić.
New captain
When Adin Vrabac went to the German Trier, the captain of Spars became a young and senior representative of our country Stefan Glogovac who said that the role of captain represents great honour for him.
“This is my fifth year in the club and I am very glad to succeed Vrabac. I am grateful to the coach and to the Management of the club for the confidence they have in me. I will do my best to fulfil their expectations. I hope I will play even better in the next season and that I will be invited again to our senior representation.” – said Glogovac.
