srebrenicaSrebrenica flower as a symbol of fight against genocide, with a diameter of 16 meters, was built on the hill Karašnica above Ilijaš with the aim of reminding of the July 11, 1992.

Project of construction of a park at this locality, within which the flower was built, is led by the Cantonal Public Enterprise Sarajevo Forests. They state that the intention behind this was not to display religious or national symbols, but to send a message that the crime must not happen anywhere else again.

The flower can be seen from Ilijaš and from the motorway, and Director of the KJP Sarajevo Forests Nermin Demirović said that it will be constantly worked on landscaping around the flower, so that the seasons will not obstruct the view of it.

The central part of the flower is planted with evergreens, so the color will be lasting.

Within the project Ambient landscaping of the locality Karašnica, a construction of the part is planned and its central part, the flower, is completed so far.

“Our aim is to adjust the areas that we manage with to the economic, sociological, ecological and educational aspect,” Demirović said.

Demirović pointed out that with this project they also want to remind of other crimes in many other places such as Zvornik, Bratunac, Tuzla, Sarajevo…

Continuation of the works on landscaping in the park is planned in the summer season, when trees will be planted.
