The second day of the regional documentary film festival SrebrenicaDocs, dedicated to the themes of dealing with the past and transitional justice, was held in Potočari. Today, Nadira Hurem’s film about Salih Brkić, an FTV journalist who dedicatedly reported on the victims of Srebrenica, was also screened.
Brkić reported from numerous foreign countries and from almost all the battlefields in Podrinje and the Tuzla Canton. He himself filmed documentaries about the consequences of the genocide in Srebrenica.
“I am looking for people that no one has filmed. Srebrenica is my greatest wound, as is my Stolac and my Mostar,” Salih Brkić used to say.
“The documentary film about Salih Brkić is more than a retrospective. It is an ode to courage, truth and justice that he personified. On the occasion of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, his life and work remind us of the importance of honoring the victims, but also of the obligation to fight against forgetting and injustice. Salih Brkić was not only a journalist, he was a beacon of hope and an example for all of us to never get tired of searching for truth and justice,” says Nadira Hurem, author of the film.
Hurem added that example is an inspiration that a journalist striving for objectivity must never forget humanity and always remain faithful to the principles of the profession.
“At a time when misinformation and sensationalism are common, the legacy of Salih Brkić reminds us of the importance of responsible and ethical journalism,” concludes Hurem.
