Stanivukovic: RS Fails for Years to Establish Commodity Reserves System

SNSD is showing irresponsibility and complete indifference to the problems of citizens facing the energy crisis – said the president of the Safe Srpska Movement (PSS) and the mayor of Banja Luka Draško Stanivuković, reacting to the news that SNSD will not support the abolition of excise taxes.

“The Serbian government has reduced excise taxes on petroleum products by 20 percent in order to mitigate price increases at the pumps and introduced levies to protect domestic producers, while our “government is combing its hair”,” said Stanivuković.

He points out that dozens of developed countries have reacted responsibly, stating that they have limited margins, reduced taxes, activated part of state reserves and adopted emergency measures to protect their citizens and the economy.

“And here in our country? In the Republika Srpska, the government not only refuses to temporarily reduce excise taxes on fuel, but for years has not even been able to establish a serious system of commodity reserves that would protect citizens in times of crisis,” said Stanivuković.

He said that while many developed countries are competing to do more to protect their people, the government in Republika Srpska seems to be competing to do less.

“The Safe Srpska Movement is choosing a different path – the path of concrete measures and care for every person. That is why we have proposed measures that we will insist on. While the whole world is looking for solutions to the crisis, the government in Republika Srpska is acting as if it is on a break. And the people are not getting a break from the price increases,” Stanivuković stated, the PSS announced.
