John_KerryThe U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, while presenting the new annual State Department report on human rights in the world said that many governments resort to politically motivated persecution, and use new technologies in order to control the expression of dissent, whether through public protests or various uses of technology, announces Voice of America. Kerry pointed out several countries whose governments violate human rights of its citizens.

According to State Department report, when it comes to B&H, although the general elections of 2010 were declared free and fair, the coalitions that formed after the elections at all the levels of government are still unstable, and constantly strive to change composition, thus preventing political progress.

Several times during 2013, authorities have failed to maintain effective control of the security forces, even though, the security forces have not carried out a widespread or systematic human rights violations.

However, still the most serious problems in B&H are corruption and nonfunctional government, which prevents citizens to achieve their rights. Political leaders have stepped up the deep rooted ethnic divisions, and manipulate citizens, which weakens the democracy, and leads to great discrimination in most aspects of everyday life, reduces the rule of law, interferes with media and obstructs the return of refugees.

Provocation and intimidation of journalists and civic activists restricts public access to accurate information, as well as the responsibility of political leaders, said in the State Department report on human rights in B&H.
