Statement Regarding SRNA Report on Ambassador Sorensen’s Comments on the Law on Residence

andyAndy McGuffie, EUD/EUSR spokesperson, said:

“Following the SRNA report of yesterday (28 April) titled ‘RS Government’s decision should not endanger return’, EUD/EUSR would like to clarify that this headline and the opening line of the report are not an accurate representation of the Ambassador’s comment. He did not say that ‘the RS Government decision should not pose a danger for returns’.

“Rather the Ambassador said:

‘This is very unfortunate that a solution has not been found at the state level. That’s where it belongs. We don’t believe that this unilateral action will solve much. We are fully convinced, that this is very clear, that people’s right to return and freedom of movement cannot be impeded. And from an EU context we are concerned that Bosnia and Herzegovina has to look into, that it fulfils all obligations it has upon itself in connection with the visa liberalisation so therefore, once again, for the umpteenth time we encourage authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the state level, and in entities, in cooperation to find a state-level solution instead of these unilateral moves.’ “
