Herzegovina has a long tradition of growing olives. Estimates indicate that around 300 hectares of land are under the olive trees. In the Municipality of Stolac, slowly but surely, are growing new plantations, and dealing with olive oil will certainly get improved because, thanks to the project “Pilot actions for integrated rural development and the revitalization of the territory of BiH”, the Association of Herzegovina fruits of Mediterranean from Stolac received a mini oil refinery.
Mini oil refinery will mean a lot to the olive growers in Stolac. They cannot wait to get it into operation and reap the fruits of their labor. Last year was better than the year before, and the olive growers are expecting a good harvest. The oil from their own oil refinery will be, according to them, even sweeter.
Before the olive oil was made in large oil refineries in Ljubuski and Capljina, and even in Opuzen or Ston. It was happening that, because of the small amount of their olives, they must connect with other manufacturers and that would sometimes result in lower quality. Stolac mini oil refinery would put an end to it.
“To take olives in Ljubuski or across the border in Ston and Opuzen and grind them – it is pricey and not simple, and I hope that this our oil refinery will be one contribution for planting olive trees and the promotion of these crops,” said Stjepan Boskovic, the Mayor of the Municipality of Stolac.
In the municipality of Stolac, as they emphasize, they are making everything for olives, pomegranate and fig tree in this region to get the place they deserve, but also to attract investors. For them, the doors are wide open in the economic zone Hodovo, which already has 66 private investors. Thanks to the solar park, they are producing 3 megawatts of electricity, and there are new requirements for the production of additional 22 megawatts.
