received_1205297499521204In the time when religion is discussed a lot in the public and not much about religion is done, rare examples of true believers bring hope that genuine practicing of religion still exists. In the holy month of Ramadan, according to the religion, a man sets himself free of negative thoughts, expresses regret for all wrongdoings, and asks for forgiveness.

The 90-year-old hajji Bešlaga Bajraktarević from Donja Špionica near Srebrenik can certainly speak about true commitment to religion and the respecting of its principles. Ever since 1989, Bajraktarević has been fasting every second day, practicing the Dawud’s fasting.

Physical strength and will are necessary in order for a man to get used to this kind of fasting, Bešlaga says. Behind him are 76 Ramadans which he fasted and 6.700 days of fasting.

Hajji Bešlaga was born in 1927. He has three children with his wife Hava, all grownups. This year he intends to go to Hajj for the second time, and he decided to do it for his late father. Although his children offered him financial help, Bešlaga says he will finance the Hajj with funds earned by praying prayers.
