An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck off the northeastern coast of Taiwan, the regional meteorological agency said.
The quake struck about 20 kilometers (12 miles) off Yilan County at a depth of 112 kilometers (70 miles).
The statement said buildings in Taipei shook briefly, but there were no reports of damage.
