Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo won the first place at 45th “Gradjevinijada” competition for the first time in the history of this event. This is a very important success because this is the first time for a faculty from the University of Sarajevo, as well as BiH, to win the first place in this type of the event.

“Gradjevinijada” is an event that gathers students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering from the countries of the former Yugoslavia: BiH, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Macedonia, and faculties from other countries such as Romania, Bulgaria and Germany also take part from time to time.

Between 1,000 and 1,500 students participate in this event every year. This year’s organizer of “Gradjevinijada” was the Association of Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, while the event itself was held on the Black Sea in Bulgaria. This event represents a heritage of a decade-old tradition, and this was the 45th event.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo won a total of 16 medals (out of a total of 21) at this year’s “Gradjevinijada 2018”, and thus set a record for this competition. They won 9 first places, 4 second places and 3 third places. They won medals from all 11 fields in the Quiz of knowledge, and 8 of them were gold medals. Moreover, they won 5 medals (out of a total of 10) in the sporting part of the competition, i.e. one 1stplace, two 2ndplaces and the two 3rdplaces.

“With the serious and dedicated work of our students and thanks to our quality teaching staff, we managed to show that civil engineering and geodesy are well studied in Sarajevo and our athletes can compete with the best athletes in the region,” as noted in the statement from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo.
