hotel-pinoStudio Zec with the project Hotel Pino Nature Trebevic was nominated for the European Union for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe in 2017.

This award is given every two years since 1987, and the winner will receive 60,000 USD and a sculpture that evokes the Pavilion Mies van der Rohe in Barcelona.

In the project description of Hotel Pino Nature is stated that besides the cult of coffee drinking, Sarajevo has tradition of recreation in the surrounding mountains, which are real “lungs of the city”. The appearance of the hotel Pino is based on steep roofs and experiences of national architects, the natural geometry of the mountain environment and warmth of a mountain lodge.

Project of Studio Zec, whose founder and owner is Amir Vuk Zec, is one of the 365 architectural works from all over the world and it was nominated by the Association of Architects in BiH.

Besides BiH, only Malta and Ukraine have one nominee, while most of them are from France and Spain – a total of 28 of them, 19 from the UK, 17 from Germany and Italy, 16 from Denmark and 15 from Austria. Croatia has 8 nominated projects, Serbia 4, while Albania has 2 nominees.

For nominated works was said that they are stimulating, innovative, have improved the existing conditions, moved boundaries and set new standards.

The jury will announce the short list of 40 projects in January, and they will select five finalists in April. The awards ceremony will take place on the 26th of May at the Pavilion Mies van der Rohe.
