Support for Palestine from Sarajevo: “Yesterday Srebrenica, Today Gaza”

A rally in support of Palestine and a peaceful walk for the residents of Gaza, who have been exposed to brutal Israeli attacks for five weeks, were held in Sarajevo.

Several thousand people gathered in front of Sebiljel in Baščaršija, organized by the Independent Youth Gathering in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Many citizens carried the flags of Palestine and Bosnia and Herzegovina and banners with the inscriptions “Stop the genocide in Gaza”, “Yesterday Srebrenica, today Gaza” and “Why is the world silent?”.

The gathered chanted to stop the genocide and the killing of civilians, children and women in the Gaza Strip, and photos of murdered children in the besieged Palestinian enclave were also shown.

Munevera Čehajić stated that she came to at least in this way provide support to the Palestinians, who, as she said, are being subjected to the most monstrous genocide.

“We went through the war and we know what oppression means against them. I feel very sorry for that people and I condemn the Jews because they went through the Holocaust, they know what they survived, and now they are doing the same to the Palestinians. This is unprecedented, that hospitals are being shelled, that so many children are being killed, I have no words to condemn. The kidnappers of their land have kept them in camps for 75 years. That’s enough,” Čehajić said.

Safija Tadefi, one of the organizers of the citizens’ meeting, pointed out that it is important to send a message to the world that it should no longer be silent while genocide is being carried out against Palestinians.

“We want to send a message to the whole world that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina are with the people of Gaza, that we strongly condemn the genocide that is happening. It is not war, it is genocide, apartheid by Israel,” Tadefi said, noting that it is unfortunate that many countries openly they support Israel in the genocide of the Palestinians, which clearly shows the double standards for human life.

Zehid Zahirović came to the meeting with his wife to condemn the Israeli attacks on innocent people in Gaza.

“In Palestine, civilization is collapsing, humanity is collapsing. This has nothing to do with religion, nor with the nation. People, women, children are dying there. We thought that it had been overcome, that we had reached a certain level where it would no longer happen, but we see it every day 500 people each die there. This is something that a normal person cannot bear. We came to say who we are with, that we are with those who are dying today, just as we used to be in this city 30 years ago,” emphasized Zahirović.

This is the second pro-Palestinian protest in Sarajevo, about 10,000 people gathered at the previous one, and numerous protests were also held in other cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, AA reports.
