The role of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) in the process of European integration, especially in the case of the opening of negotiations between BiH and the European Union, is extremely important, and on that path the CBBH greatly contributes to the implementation of its activities, primarily in the field of payment systems and the production of statistical data. , it was pointed out during the meeting between the head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Ambassador Johann Sattler, and the Governor of the CBBH Jasmine Selimović.
In the conversation with Governor Selimović during Ambassador Sattler’s visit to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, special attention was paid to the project of including BiH in the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA), which includes the countries of the Western Balkans, and for which the CBBH has the support of the EU.
As the process of joining the SEPA area and linking with the EU payment systems is of essential importance for the development of payment systems, and in general for the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the CBBH continuously carries out activities on the preparation and construction of the necessary infrastructure and participates in all activities with other institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina necessary for the realization of the European path when it comes to joining SEPA.
It was also stated that the official statistics produced by the CBBH are of exceptional importance on BiH’s path towards the EU. By regularly publishing macroeconomic estimates and numerous statistical data, the CBBH strives to contribute to better information about how Bosnia and Herzegovina public and economic subjects, as well as numerous international institutions and potential investors in BiH.
