The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and the Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves strongly condemn the decision of the Trial Chamber of the Hague Tribunal from July 19, with which war criminals Stanisic and Simatovic were released on a temporary freedom during a summer break and that the authorities of the Netherlands should transport them to the Airport on July 21, or the first day after that date.
“How can people who are charged with the murder of thousands of people can get “vacation” during the summer break of court,” stated from this associations and added that they have been betrayed countless times by Serbia and its authorities to meet the conditions prescribed by the Hague Tribunal and they have no reason to believe that this case will be any different.
“Although we are trying to have confidence in the judiciary, especially the ICTY and MICT, we do not want this to become a precedent for other international tribunals. The case of Seselj humiliated and undermined enough the established practice of the ICTY in prosecuting the worst violations of international laws,” as stated by these associations.
They found it unacceptable for this decision, which was issued on July 19, to be procedurally hidden from the public and from the victims, until it was already carried out.
It is shameful that this information is constantly denied to victims, which means that we are not able to respond in time, especially when it comes to cases before courts whose aim is to protect the victims. We will not give up on our struggle for justice and truth,” as said from the association of victims.
