The Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis will pay four million Swiss francs (about 4.3 million euros) in solidarity with the victims of drug testing at the Munsterlingen psychiatric hospital in the Swiss canton of Thurgau.

The canton of Thurgau was able to reach an agreement with Novartis to share the costs.

Pharmaceutical companies will pay about a third of the estimated costs for the victims.

Novartis AG is a biotechnology and pharmaceutical company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. With sales of 46.8 billion euros in 2022, this giant is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

According to the canton’s announcement, people who were given test drugs at psychiatric clinics in the canton of Thurgau between 1940 and 1980 have the right to submit a claim for monetary compensation of 25,000 Swiss francs (26,700 euros).

The canton assumes that around 500 requests will be submitted, which would result in costs of 12.5 million Swiss francs (13.4 million euros).

Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2028, which is why the law on payments will be valid until the end of 2031, AA writes.
