Conceptual design for Štrosmajerova Street, i.e. guidelines for the future look of one of the most important promenades in the capital, was presented yesterday in Sarajevo.
In late 2015, the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo published a contest for the conceptual design of the look of this street, with the aim of gathering quality solutions for artistic, architectural, urban and horticultural arrangement.
Solution declared as the best is the one under the code “SC215” by the group of authors – Sabin Babić, Mirza Hrustemović, Tihomir Krajtmajer and Emir Kalamujić.
“Our idea was to offer something nice and different, together with cultural amenities, to the city. We symbolically titled the project ‘Open air gallery’. Our desire was to bring Štrosmajerova back as a promenade; to give the promenade back to the city and city back to its citizens”, said Hrustemović, adding that their idea is not cheap but that the price is a relative term when the profit is considered.
Štrosmajerova Street would be literally transformed by making underground galleries, with planting of trees whose growth would be controlled, as well as with a roof made of glass and metal which will not hide the view of Trebević and the Cathedral. Tiles on the promenade would be made of granite, with trashcans everywhere, hanging lighting and a glass platform which would divide the gallery and the promenade.
When it comes to money, the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality Ibrahim Hadžibajrić did not want to speculate on amounts because the final project does not exist yet. However, he pointed out that works could be divided into several stages, pointing out that roofing and lighting are something that could be done in short period of time for the least amount of money.
