The first attack on Sarajevo started on the 5th April 1992. After that followed a long siege of 1425 days, in which the army of Republika Srpska, assisted with formations from Serbia, killed over 11,500 people, among which 1,600 were children.

On that 5th of April 1992 the citizens of Sarajevo went to the streets. Those were one of the largest demonstrations in BiH, where citizens were requesting the peace.

Serbian army opened the fire on the crowd. Suada Dilberovic and Olga Sucic were killed on the Vrbanja Bridge that day.

Airplane of YNA, who broke the sound barrier, was flying over the crowd, thus frightening the demonstrators. The brave people of Sarajevo, unarmed, went across the bridge, towards the settlement Kovacici, to stop the aggressor who was shooting on the city.

Take a look at the authentic recordings from the streets of Sarajevo on the 5th of April 1992. (VIDEO)
