The 35th Anniversary of the biggest Mining Accident in BiH was marked

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the largest mining accident in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Let us recall that on August 26, 1990, 180 miners, whose average age was 27, died in the Dobrnja – Jug pit of the Kreka Mine. This was the youngest shift of miners at this mine. Smajl Imamović is the only miner who survived this tragedy.

Families of the deceased miners, delegations from the Kreka Mine, Elektroprivreda BiH, as well as the relevant federal ministry and others laid flowers and wreaths at the memorial in the mine compound today, paying tribute and remembering the deceased miners.

Although no one has been held accountable for the accident to date, an investigation by the competent authorities showed that the root cause was the explosion of a cloud of coal dust due to improper blasting of the steel support.
