The 508th “Days of Ajvatovica” were opened on June 18th in Prusac near Donji Vakuf. This event offered a great number of religious, cultural and sporting events in the last 15 days for all the visitors.

Besides Donji Vakuf, the contents of “Ajvatovica” were also held in Gornji Vakuf, Bugojno, Travnik, Novi Travnik, Jajce, Busovaca, Fojnica, Vitez, Livno and Sarajevo.

The exhibition “Silence of Infinity” by authors Sead and Halida Imec was hosted at Hasan Kafija Pruscak’s House after the opening of the event.

This year’s “Days of Ajvatovica” will be finished on Sunday, July 1, when numerous believers from BiH and abroad will depart towards the largest Muslim pilgrimage site in Europe – Ajvatovica. An appropriate religious program will be organized at the locality as well.

The tradition of “Ajvatovica” is more than 500 years old. The legend says that the well-known religious man from Prusac, Ajvaz-dedo, prayed the early morning prayer for 40 days, in which he asked from God to give water to the residents of Prusac.

One day, he fell asleep after the prayer and he had a dream about two white rams fighting and he saw how their horns clashed and they hit the rock that crashed. He woke up and saw a broken rock from which the water appeared.

Muslims from all over the world visit Prusac every year in memory of Ajvaz-dedo’s prayer.
