The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Roem Kono, hosted a reception for dignitaries from the political, cultural and public life of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 79th anniversary of the country’s Independence Day.
Indonesia gained its independence on August 17, 1945 after several centuries of rule by the Netherlands (Netherlands), therefore August 17 is very significant for the citizens of that country.
From this year, as Ambassador Kono said, the official ceremony is held in the new capital of Nusantara, and the organizer of the ceremony is the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, known as Jokow.
Among other things, Ambassador Kono emphasized in his statement to Fena news agency that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Indonesia have very good bilateral relations – trade exchange has improved, exports from Indonesia to Bosnia and Herzegovina have increased by 150 percent.
Also, the number of workers from Indonesia has increased in BiH, and around 60 Indonesian citizens already work in the hospitality sector.
“The number of tourist visits to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also to Indonesia, has increased. In recent years, the number of tourist visits has increased by four percent. Cultural cooperation is also at a high level,” the ambassador pointed out.
Kono believes that bilateral relations, especially in trade, could be even better if cooperation agreements are signed. Because, as he explained, goods from Indonesia come to Bosnia and Herzegovina via a third country, and this causes an increase in product prices.
He expects that memorandums and agreements on better trade cooperation could be signed in the near future.
At the solemn ceremony marking the 79th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia in Sarajevo, the oath of allegiance to preserve the integrity of the country was read and the heroes of that country were honored.
The guests and dignitaries at the reception were also served a yellow rice cake, tumpan, which symbolizes ‘volcanic mountains’.
