The Agency for Statistics of Kosovo has published preliminary data on the population census, according to which 1,586,659 citizens live in that territory.

The population census in Kosovo was conducted from April 5 to May 24 this year

The preliminary results of the population census show that 1,586,659 citizens live in Kosovo, while 600,000 people have been registered in the diaspora so far.

The census for residents in the diaspora will last until August 31.

According to the collected data, the largest number of citizens were registered in Pristina – over 277,000.

As far as the Serbian communities are concerned, the largest response in the census was in the municipality of Gračanica, where 19,371 inhabitants were enumerated, in Štrpac – 10,819, Leposavic – 3,207, North Mitrovica – 2,349, while the smallest number was in the municipalities of Zubin Potok – 758 and in Zvečan, where only 455 citizens were registered.

Acting head of the Kosovo Agency for Statistics, Avni Kastrati, said that Serbs in Kosovo boycotted the census in the first five days, but that after that they started participating in the census.

“In the south of Kosovo, the entire Serbian population was part of the census, while in the north the Serbs mostly boycotted the census,” said Kastrati.

He stated that compared to 2011, due to natural growth, the population of Kosovo increased by 200,000 people and that the average age is around 30 years, Beta writes.
