Three Israeli hostages were released yesterday and handed over from Gaza to the Israeli military, and Palestinian, Israeli, and other media have revealed several interesting details about the entire process.
Lebanese media reported that the three hostages were released in exchange for 72 Palestinian prisoners, as part of the agreement and signed truce between Hamas and Israel.
Two prisoners released by Hamas were freed from the Khan Younis area, and it was reported that the transfer of the hostages was organized by members of the Al-Qassam Brigades.
It is also highlighted that the handover process was carried out in a vehicle that members of this Palestinian brigade had seized on October 7th, 2023.
It is reported that hostages Ofer Calderon and Yarden Bibas signed a document committing not to return to service in the Israeli military.
As for the third hostage, Keith Siegel, he was released from central Gaza, and Israeli and Palestinian sources stated that the entire handover process was overseen by commander Haitham Al-Hawajri.
What is interesting is that in December 2023, the Israeli military announced that it had killed this Hamas commander, but that information has evidently proven to be false.
Hostage and prisoner exchanges will continue in the coming days, after which other phases of the peace agreement’s implementation should begin, including the reconstruction of Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli troops, Klix.ba writes.
