Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said she is confident that the attack on France’s TGV high-speed train network will not affect the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in the French capital.

“The attacks have no impact on the transport network of the Paris region,” she said a few hours before the ceremony, which will be attended by many leaders.

Hidalgo described the attacks on the TGV network as sabotage, but she is confident that it will not affect the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in the capital, the French news agency AFP reports.

“What happened is unacceptable, but it will not have an impact on tonight’s ceremony because it has no consequences for the traffic network in the Paris region,” she said after a meeting with Spain’s King Felipe VI.

The French railway SNCF announced today that there was an attack on the TGV high-speed train network on Thursday evening. Just a few hours before the official opening of the Olympic Games, traffic on the route between Paris and some parts of France was interrupted due to several arson fires.

Around 25 percent of Eurostar services were also canceled today as a result of the attack, mainly between Paris and London and Paris and Brussels. It is expected to be similar on Saturday and Sunday, Eurostar said, expecting that the disturbances will be resolved by Monday morning.

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games will officially begin in Paris with tonight’s ceremony. They will be officially opened by French President Emmanuel Macron. About 120 top representatives of the countries are expected at the ceremony.
