The City of Sarajevo files criminal Charges against those responsible for January 9th Celebration and Genocide Denial

Yesterday, the City Council of the City of Sarajevo made a unanimous decision to file criminal charges against those responsible for celebrating the unconstitutional day of the Republika Srpska (RS) on January 9th.

At yesterday’s session of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo, on the proposal of SDA councilor Alma Cengic, conclusions were adopted on the filing of criminal charges against responsible institutions, non-governmental organizations, and individuals who participated in celebrating the unconstitutional holiday of the RS.

Criminal charges will include those persons, associations and institutions that insist on maintaining the memorial plaque dedicated to the war criminal Ratko Mladic.

Councilor Cengic emphasized that this step followed after the Office of the High Representative (OHR) did not take any significant steps to stop the unconstitutional celebration or remove the disputed memorial plaque.

“The rule of law is something for which I believe there is a broad consensus of the representatives of all political subjects in this council, and it is a feature that accompanies all coalition agreements in the recent period. Secondly, I believe that it is also the duty of all institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH), including the OHR, which is both the legislator and the instrument of its implementation to contribute to the process of strengthening the rule of law,” Cengic pointed out.

Namely, she noted to the public that in the mentioned cases, it is about the absolute denial of all victims of aggression against our homeland, the celebration of convicted criminals, the denial of the legal order, as well as the opinions of the Venice Commission and all international courts.

The city council adopted the aforementioned conclusions and asked the mayor to urgently and without delay file the mentioned criminal charges on behalf of the City of Sarajevo based on violations of articles 145a and 239 of the Criminal Code of BiH, which deal with non-implementation of Constitutional Court judgments and denial of genocide.
