The Conference “B&H between Dayton and Brussels” to be held in Mostar

mostarThe International Conference on the topic “Bosnia and Herzegovina between Dayton and Brussels: From the Dayton Agreement to the Stabilization and Association Agreement” will be held in Mostar from 11 to 13 September, organized by the Pan-European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina with support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Croatian Cultural Society Napredak.

This was announced today at a press conference in Sarajevo at which members of the Presidency of the Pan-European Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jasmina Pašalić and prof. dr. Kasim Trnka talked about the motives for holding this meeting, its significance, but also the current position of BiH on the path from Dayton to Brussels.

Prof. Jasmina Pašalić reminded that the last year’s Pan-European Union conference, held in Sarajevo, addressed to the Declaration and highlighted the need for a new approach to the European Union (EU) for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dr. Kasim Trnka, speaking about the current events in BiH and the key challenges, said that “the Dayton agreement incorporates elements of a permanent institution, and therefore the social crisis … and it turned out that this concept prevents more prosperous and faster development.”

He believes that after the British-German initiative, the Vienna Summit and the Declaration of the European Parliament, conditions are met for a new BiH approach to European integration.

“Brussels is somehow the promise of a better life. On the other hand when you get to Brussels, they have to change the paradigm of Daytona, which was a necessary compromise to stop the war,” he said.

Arrival of more than 100 participants is expected at the conference, including representatives of BiH authorities, the international community, diplomatic corps, as well as pan-European organizations from several European countries.
