Although the Prime Minister of RS Željka Cvijanović, the President of the National Assembly of RS Nedeljko Čubrilović, the Ministers in the RS Government and the holders of the partisan plaque were at the Victory Square in Banja Luka today on the occasion of the May 9th-the Day of the Victory over Fascism, the attention of the citizens of Banja Luka was drawn by two little pioneers, who laid flowers at the monuments to the fallen heroes of the National Liberation War.
The President of the Republic Board SUBNOR Blagoje Gajić, the carrier of the 1941Partisan Plaque, said that about 400.000 fighters of the National Liberation Army fell for the freedom and victory over the fascist invaders.
”During the war, around 450.000 soldiers were wounded, many of them for two or more times. Around 60.000 were seriously wounded, with an amputated arm or leg, and some were even left without their eyes. This day is a great glory which we, the surviving fighters, will celebrate for as long as we walk on the earth, especially since that date is celebrated all over the Europe and even the world. On that day, the tearing of human tissue with weapons had ceased, and we experienced freedom”, said Gajić.
The President of the National Assembly of the RS Nedeljko Čubrilović said that the Serbian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina fought for the existence of the Serbian Republic, which inherits the anti-fascist struggle and cares for the rights of the people to preserve their identity in the family of European states and peoples. He stressed that the Serbs have made a significant contribution to the fight against fascism, fighting on the side of the people who did not accept slavery and fascist ideology.
“With the utmost gratitude, respect and dignity, we are now paying our respects to all who devoted their lives to the breaking of the German, Quisling and Ustasha forces in the World War II. The Ustasha atrocities against Serbs, Jews and Roma have been mostly committed in Jasenovac and Donja Gradina, and heinous crimes were committed in camps like Jadovno, Jastrebarsko, Đakovo, Lepoglava. The Ustashas killed thousands of Serbs in the Herzegovina pits on Velebit, Šušnjar and numerous other execution sites”, said Čubrilović.
