The destroyed Bridge “Battle for the Wounded” will be rebuilt over the Neretva

The destroyed bridge of the “Battle for the Wounded” will be renovated over the Neretva in Jablanica, and after 30 years of waiting, the two banks of the river will finally be connected and shine as one of the most important exhibits of anti-fascism and a strategic tourist center in that Herzegovinian town.

The connection of the structure with the existing one, which lies obliquely on the left bank of the river, has begun, and after that, in addition to the well-known bridge, a wooden crossing and paths from the left and right banks will be made, so that the Neretva can be crossed from one bank to another one.

Damir Sabanovic, the mayor of Jablanica, explained that this is a very significant project and that after thirty years of waiting, it was about time for this bridge to be reconstructed.

“This will mean a lot for the museum complex ‘Battle for the Wounded’ and the completion of the tourist offer, but also the development of this complex,” the mayor of Jablanica told.

He emphasized that this project is extremely complex as well as its implementation since there were changes in the detailed design, which is why the completion of works is late compared to the planned deadline, so he can not say for sure when it will be fully completed and when will it be solemnly opened, but as he noted, the public will be informed about it.

The director of the Public Institution Museum of the Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva, Azra Djelmo, pointed out that this is one of the most important projects that has been realized in the last few years.

“It is our most important exhibit, a witness to the events from 1943, and we certainly believe that its renovation will increase the representativeness of the complex itself and that more tourists will visit this site. Most importantly, the bridge will be preserved for future generations who will have the opportunity to continue learning about anti-fascism,” stated Djelmo.

The contracted value of the works is 1.074.314 BAM, and the deadline for performing the works was at the end of last year, Klix.ba writes.
