Draft resolution on Dayton will be on the agenda of the plenary session of the representatives of the European Parliament (EP) today in Strasbourg, with which this legislative body of the EU is marking 20 years since the signing of the Dayton Agreement in Paris.
Although only one draft resolution by the Rapporteur of the European Parliament of B&H Cristian Dan Preda, was initially introduced in the procedure, four more drafts by the different parliamentary groups were received until yesterday. Parliamentary groups should unite all five drafts in a single document, today before the start of the discussion.
“Dnevni Avaz” possess all five draft resolutions, and, as visible from the proposed texts, it should not be difficult for parliamentarians to find a common word, given that the key points are matching.
Drafts of all parliamentary groups are also emphasizing the importance of signing of the Dayton Agreement, because it stopped “the bloodiest conflict in Europe since WW II”, and the fact that it reflects the territorial integrity of B&H.
The current progress of B&H on its European path is also praised in the drafts, but B&H is urged to continue with the reform course, while the EU institutions are urged to support them on that path. All draft resolutions emphasized the reform of the Constitution of B&H, which is contained in Annex 4 of the Dayton Agreement as the necessary reform, besides socioeconomic reforms.
“Annex 4 should be urgently changed, because it slows down B&H on its path. It’s reforms are necessary in order to make the state more functional, in favor of all of its citizens,” as stated in the draft resolution which was delegated by a group of representatives led by Igor Soltes.
EU institutions are invited to find a way to make changes of the Constitution that would help B&H to speed up its path of Euro-Atlantic integration. All drafts, among others, are emphasizing the importance of further implementation of Annex 7, according to which all citizens have the right to return to their pre-war place of residence. As stated, after all drafts are united and the final document adopted, it will be sent to the addresses of all the European institutions, which will be required to assist the implementation of the resolution, as well as to addresses of government of entities and state of B&H, according to “Dnevni Avaz.”
